Jules Gaildrau (1816-1898)
Jules Gaildrau was a French painter and engraver.
Jules Dominique Gaildrau was the son of François Paul Gaildrau, a spectacle maker, and Marie Anne Violet. In 1841, he married Adrienne Hardy in Villemomble. He exhibited at the Salon from 1848 to 1857. He collaborated with Le Monde illustré as well as his daughter.
As the capital was being restructured with the demolition of many houses and buildings, he offered his drawings and engravings of all the houses that were to disappear, starting with the rue Monsieur-le-Prince.
He died at his home on rue Mazarine at the age of 81. He was buried on January 24, 1898 in the Parisian cemetery of Bagneux.
