Johan Hendrik Van Mastenbroek (1875-1945)
Johan Hendrik van Mastenbroek was born in the Dutch town of Rotterdam. His father, the painter Johannes Van Mastenbroek (1827-1909), was his first teacher and recognized his latent talent. His reputation as an artist soon spread internationally, and by the late 1890’s he was winning awards and medals throughout Europe. For his services to Dutch art, he was awarded a special gold medal by Queen Wilhelmina of Holland.
